How to spend less on Valentine's Day

Love is in the air..you can feel it coming when gifts of roses, sparkling diamonds and expensive dinners become "de rigueur" of this romantic day as love is widely celebrated. What if you're watching your wallet or perhaps looking for something more meaningful, unique and special? Then, this post is for you..It is not meant to be a cheap date but rather a creative way to express you love for that special someone. Trust me, your beloved will appreciate your thoughts.

Write all you ever wanted to say to your lover in a pretty notebook. Maybe you're in a long distance relationship where face to face dates are rare, jot down all those love sms you send. She/he recaptures those feelings again when you're not around.

Create your own " love voucher". Be creative, it can be a chore you hate doing (dishes, laundry etc), words that you're too shy to express (this is useful for women in conservative societies wanting to hear "I love you" from their men), or much needed quality time together (in my opinion, the cause of breakdown in many relationships) .Whenever these actions are wanted, love vouchers can be redeemed, for the fun of it, include an expiry date!

Make a love pledge to love each other unconditionally. Attaching a small meaningful gift would be perfect for the occasion.

Go back to places that hold sweet memories for both of you. It can be where you had your first kiss, where you met, where you proposed.

Make a personalised card. Can't draw? No worries, take a favourite photo of you two together, cut and paste, embellish with dried flowers, foliage, shells..anything pretty will do the trick. For those who're not good with words, get a clue from online poetry sites. Or simply list out ten things you like about him/her.

Print out a map of the constellations, grab a comfy blanket, pack handy snacks, then head out for some stargazing if the weather is good.

Prepare a romantic dinner together at home. If you're not good in the kitchen, order a takeaway and stay in. Create romantic atmosphere with your favourite music, wine, scented candles....and the bed is just a few footsteps away!

Whatever your plans are, the best dates are those spent with someone whose company you enjoy, no matter where you are. Money can't buy a great date. Happy Valentines' Day!
